Warmth
The feeling of warmth weaves through my days
In newborn snuggles while my toddler plays
In a cup of coffee pressed to my lips
And in a candle, freshly lit
It’s in the steam of an opened dishwasher
And in a long overdue shower
Warmth finds me sitting in the sun
And when I don’t walk to the mailbox, I run
It’s in my husband’s warm embrace
And when laughter lights up my face
I feel it in socks straight from the dryer
When I hold my toddler, who’s growing tired
It greets me hot against my skin
When I open the oven once again
It shows up softly, day by day
In ordinary, lasting ways
